Leah MacDonald describes her work as a 'dialogue between my imagination, my curiosity, my imperfections and my desires".
This perfectly sums up the beautiful art form of encaustics or wax infused photographs. A blend of photography, painting and sculpture, the encaustics process gives you tremendous freedom to mix medias and create images with a lovely ethereal quality while enjoying the sweet smell of beeswax!
We are excited to be working with Luz Studios & Leah MacDonald to bring you an afternoon designed to unblock creative channels and celebrate our artistic achievements in a relaxed and sweet smelling environment.
The beginning of the workshop will start with a Circle of Encourage lead by Stephanie Panigavluk Papik, of Moonrise Creative. Stephanie will guide us to be supportive in our own creative needs and give us words of encouragement to get into the studio and just create!
Then spend the afternoon in the studio, with encaustic photographer, bookmaker and painter with light, Leah MacDonald. Leah will be here from Philadelphia to introduce you to the world of encaustics or wax infused photographs. Working from your own images (see notes below), Leah will teach you how to pour wax, and how to paint on delicate rice and mulberry papers provided by Hahnemulhe Papers (making beautiful fine art papers since 1548). There is no previous experience needed, this is an afternoon of play and free flowing wax!
At the end of the day, you’ll have completed a number of 'wax on paper' pieces and one birch panel artwork ready to hang. Under the fading summer sun, we’ll return to our Circle to celebrate your creative day. Too often we forget to take that moment to relish in the day’s accomplishments. We’ll sip a tea sangria, breathe and enjoy feeling our creative juices flowing in the summer air. Come join us!
